Artist Statement

I appreciate the physical act of painting, the moving, the dancing and the improvisation. I hope to convey the excitement of the over all process, going from nothing to something.  Leaving traces of the raw, the uncooked.  Creating that sense of the unexpected.

The work attempts to interpret the world around me through my ideas, dialogues and bits of information.

The imagery is from clouds, plants, trees, space, underground life, as well as from science theories and related subjects.  I present these in a dense field of mixed media, pages from books, maps, and drawings that help infuse the work.

I am inventing the process as I paint layer after layer, building images and mark making that is spontaneous yet familiar.  Often sanded down, washed away and replaced with fresh marks.
